It's YOUR responsibility...

...to ensure that the flowers are either edible or non-toxic and are safely prepared in a way that reduces any sort of risks.

Not the florists, not the customers or the venues but YOURS as the cake maker! WHY? I hear you ask...well because we are the ones who (should) have food hygiene certificates and understand the protocols around using non-edible items on, or in, our baked goods.

In most cases, florists (or customers and venues for that matter) don't receive formal training on what flowers are harmful or toxic to humans if consumed. Therefore, YOU should be:

1) Liaising with the florist to find out what flowers are being used and informing them of any you can't apply to the cake.
2) Safely preparing the flowers using the correct food-safe materials.
3) Completing the relevant HACCP forms to maintain compliant with food hygiene procedures.
